Hello! My practice focuses on CBT and a holistic approach to Mental Health. I am within walking distance to Vassar College and a short drive from Marist College. I have been in private practice for over 10 years. My philosophy is that everyone deserves the opportunity for their best mental health. And that you are the expert on you!
You are really tired. If you’re being honest, your head is spinning & you’re anxious all the time. It’s keeping you from being able to rest, let alone enjoy life. Your thoughts are moving so fast, that it’s hard to stay focused. Now you’re starting to have headaches, racing heart, & tightness in your chest. You’re not sure what to do about it. All you know is that you don’t feel your best & feel that you’ve been letting people down. You feel disappointed in yourself & wonder what is going on with you. Usually things go according to plan and right now that is definitely not happening. It’s starting to become too much. You are really tired. The transition to college can feel overwhelming, exciting and full of possibility, yet also uncertain and stressful. I work with college students and young adults who are navigating this new chapter while managing academic pressure, identity exploration, and changing relationships. As the daughter of immigrants, I have a deep passion for supporting immigrants and first-generation Americans. I understand the unique challenges that can come with balancing family expectations, cultural values, and personal goals. I strive to create a space where all parts of your experience are welcomed and understood. My approach to therapy is collaborative and relationship-centered. I believe that a strong, trusting connection is the foundation of meaningful work. I take time to get to know you and tailor therapy to your individual needs, drawing from a variety of therapeutic strategies to create a personalized and supportive experience. Together, we will identify an approach that feels right for you and supports your growth, resilience, and well-being.
If you are looking for guidance with anxiety, ADHD, or relationships, it takes courage to ask for help. Admitting you can’t do everything on your own, is the first step toward achieving wellness in a fast paced, demanding world. The good news is, asking for help gets easier with a little practice. The way in which we cope in the world is greatly influenced by how we see the world. Asking for help, and obtaining a fresh perspective is often the first and most profound step toward developing the mental muscle needed to become stronger. As an experienced psychologist, it’s my honor to assist you in exploring core issues & move toward a healthy, fulfilling life. Utilizing a variety of approaches including Cognitive-Behavioral, Family Systems, Integrative, Person Centered, Solution-Focused Therapy, I will work with you to create a treatment that's customized to meet your unique circumstances. With honesty and compassion I will work with you to create an open channel of communication. We will work on the skill of self-compassion, which will allow you to move more easily through difficult times in the future, as well as become a more productive and happier person.

Depression and anxiety can strike at any age. But understanding the developmental challenges our clients are facing, regardless of what life stage they are in, is fundamental to our approach. College students face an enormous array of stressors as they are learning to live independently, separating from home and family, figure out who they are and what they want to be, establishing or navigating new social groups, starting/searching for/ending significant romantic relationships, managing heavy workloads, or simply dealing with the pressure to excel. We are here to help you navigate these very real stressors, to empathize and to teach you skills to address the depression and/or anxiety these stressors can cause.
A bit more about my approach to therapy: My approach is down-to-earth, encouraging, and guided foremost by the client. The #1 adage leading my practice is “start where the client is”. I listen carefully, reflect for clarity, and help clients to articulate deeper understanding of themselves. Individuals questioning their sexual identity, LGBTQ, and BIPOC clients will be supported and affirmed. Creative types are welcomed: use of creativity is an unlimited source of healing potential. "Begin. The rest is easy." - George Jenkins What you can expect from our first session: Every individual deserves to find a meaningful sense of purpose, direction, and belonging. After our first session together, I hope for you to feel seen, understood, and supported upon a path of increasing possibility; my hope is that you will feel more capable in the moment of managing what life has waiting for you next.
So many young adults are struggling to adjust to new experiences like going to college and moving out. Maybe you’re feeling overwhelmed just thinking about living on your own and wondering how your friends are so easily moving out of their parents’ home. College sounds like a logical next step and you’re wondering how to make the leap. The idea of landing a job may seem scary and intimidating. Relationships with friends and partners may also be changing, leaving you lonely and uncertain. This can all result in your friends moving on with their lives and you feeling left behind. Trying to leave the comfort and security of the nest can be harder if you are battling old habits you have never looked at or believed you could change. Qualities like trying to be perfect, avoiding tough issues, putting things off and a lack of self-confidence can all add to the struggle of becoming more independent. Many young adults also suffer from severe anxiety, depression or past trauma. When we add in that life skills may not be your strong suit and you may depend on your parents more than other young adults your age do, you have the perfect recipe for failure to launch. Just recognizing what is happening is such a positive first step! Individual therapy is a great place to start for anyone struggling with failure to launch. One of my favorite things to help clients uncover is their spark; the thing in life you feel most passionate about! Let’s get you motivated and doing things you excel at. Learning healthier ways to cope, ditching old habits and feeling better about yourself will get you on track to creating a fun, happy and fulfilling life. Ready to start your journey toward “launching” your life? Then let’s chat! Reach out for your free 15 minute phone consultation. We can check in, I can see how you’re doing and answer your questions.

Navigating OCD, anxiety, relationships, and life transitions can be emotionally and physically draining. There is little more frustrating than thinking and behaving in the same ways despite knowing they contribute to these issues and other debilitating symptoms. Therapy is a place to safely explore the thoughts, behaviors, and relationships that are interfering with living a more fulfilling and rewarding life. I am a trained OCD specialist and an active member of the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF). I have extensive experience working with college undergrad and graduate students from my time as a counselor at the University of Colorado, Boulder and at Bryant University. Working directly on a college campus has provided me with a unique understanding of the intersection between academics and mental health, as well as how to navigate many campus systems best. Currently, in my private practice, I work with college students from the many different colleges in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Colorado. The majority of clients that I work with are navigating Anxiety or OCD and Related Disorders. My clinical approach to therapy is grounded in ERP, ACT, and CBT. I believe therapy is built around compassion, respect, and trust. I look forward to connecting with you and exploring how we can collaboratively achieve your treatment goals. Send me an email, give me a call, or visit my website (www.smithlicsw.com) to set up an appointment. If you are struggling and are tired of trying to handle things alone, please do not hesitate to get in touch. * I provide telehealth services to clients in Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, Illinois, Vermont, and Colorado.*

I specialize in therapy for young and emerging adult women with anxiety, depression, life transitions, and OCD to help them find balance and gain new perspectives on how they see the world and themselves. I challenge Perfectionists, Overthinkers, and People Pleasers to step out of their black-and-white thinking. In our work together, we’ll explore the patterns that have protected you in the past, dive deeper into your experiences, and notice the stories that your mind is telling you. We’ll work with both your mind and body, helping you tune into how your thoughts, emotions, and physical responses are connected. As an integrative therapist, I blend evidence-based practices with a human, relational approach—drawing from different modalities to meet you where you are and what you need most. My goal is to provide a balanced, trauma-informed, and holistic approach that addresses the whole person—mind, body, and emotions. If you’re ready to understand yourself more deeply, build healthier boundaries, strengthen your self-trust, and create more space for flexibility and self-compassion, feel free to reach out or schedule a free consultation through my website—I’d be honored to support you!
