We understand that asking for help can be scary. You may question what others think or wonder if you really need counseling, but we all get stuck sometimes. You are not alone. Life can become challenging and overwhelming, making you want to escape or avoid external problems or your own needs. Therapy doesn’t solve all of the problems; it gives you a place to explore yourself in the midst of them. It provides support and tools to build your understanding, courage, and resilience – because you deserve healing, wholeness, fulfillment, and peace.
I am here to help you understand your full potential, while mindfully understanding your patterns and triggers and learning new routines. I have experience working with a vast variety of populations, including those with depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, and ADHD concerns. Please allow me the opportunity to give you the power to become your own superhero. Asking for help can sometimes feel scary or shameful. The truth is, asking for help is a sign of strength and courage. Everyone deserves the opportunity to be the star of their own story. Every superhero has an origin story and every hero can be complimented by the proper team. I want to be on yours. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sometimes we lose our sense of self and feel overwhelmed by our emotions, experiences, and life's responsibilities. Other times, we lack a space where we can show up as we are, and have someone join us in our experience. I value creating a collaborative space for exploration, healing, and understanding. Together, we can create a space where you are heard and where you can explore what brings meaning to your life. I work with clients who may be navigating life transitions, are feeling distressed, or experiencing interpersonal issues. Early on, we will develop a trusting relationship, exploring your current concerns and collaborating to find ways to address them. I often use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Person-Centered, and Strengths- based techniques. After exploring what's brining you into therapy, we will work on increasing your tolerance of certain emotions while living a life that brings you fulfillment and meaning.

Hi! My name is Matt and I am a limited licensed professional counselor. I have been working as a counselor since 2022 and have been working in the mental health field since 2016. My first counseling job was at Central Michigan University and I worked with clients with a variety of concerns such as life adjustments, anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, trauma, etc. Before anything else, I'd first try to get to know you, your circumstances, your presenting problem, and your strengths before we focus on how we can make the best use of our time together, whether that be space to process, thinking of solutions, or something else. If we don't happen to be a match, that's ok! I work with a team of other mental health professionals who may be available to take on new clients as well.
When therapy becomes a reality A situation arises in one’s life that alters our once innocent perspective of our surroundings. Answers are searched through the experience of others when ultimately the truth lies within our own experiences. These two phrases tend to resonate with individuals who experience trauma, anxiety, depression, overall dysregulation within their environment. Each person’s experience is unique as well as the journey to repairing the damage left behind. I believe therapy can be used to create a personable, yet the potentially uncomfortable path to reality and self-truth. College can be a lot. The pressure to keep up academically, friendships that shift without warning, questions about who you are and where you’re headed, anxiety that won’t shut off, or just that heavy feeling that you’re supposed to have it all figured out by now. A lot of students feel this way, even if it doesn’t always look like it from the outside. I’m Kate, a Licensed Master Social Worker with over ten years of experience. At Blue Horizons Counseling I work with college students and young adults dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, stress, and the many transitions that come with this stage of life. I keep things practical. We’ll use tools from CBT and solution-focused approaches so you actually walk away with things you can try between sessions. My style is straightforward and collaborative—I want you to feel heard without any pressure to perform or have the perfect answers. I offer both in-person and telehealth sessions across Michigan, and I try to keep scheduling flexible around classes and work. Affordability matters to me too. Quality care shouldn’t feel out of reach. If you’re looking for a steady, no-pressure place to sort through what’s going on, feel free to reach out. I’m happy to talk whenever you’re ready.
