School can be a stressful time. In addition to managing any mental health issues you might be experiencing, you also feel pressure to do well academically, or have anxiety about your career, or be unhappy with friendships on campus and feeling alone, or having difficulty adjusting to the increased demands on their time or to the new environment. I work with students who are struggling in these areas, and have extensive experience working specifically with college and graduate school students, so I understand both the unique challenges and common stressors you're facing. In addition, I have specific expertise in helping young adults navigate dating and romantic relationships in the college setting. In fact, my doctoral project focused on understanding how young adults experience hookup culture. My goal is to help clients reduce anxiety, manage depression and bipolar disorders, resolve relationship issues, navigate difficult life transitions, and maintain healthy habits and lifestyles. Many people feel overwhelmed and lost, unhappy in their situation but unable to make positive change or find satisfaction in life. They rely on old habits to feel better such as avoidance by overworking or isolating, escaping through technology or substances, or being self-critical in hopes this will force themselves to change. In individual therapy I help my clients understand how their past has shaped their present, identify immediate and future goals, learn healthy ways to cope and grow, and find meaning in their lives. I also have a specific interest in helping people understand patterns in their relationships and improving their connections with others.

Emotions are normal, even hard to handle ones. Struggling is normal; it’s all part of the human experience. I’m here to teach you and empower you to manage and cope with strong emotions, stressors, and hardships. Through our time together, you will learn about the mind and how it connects with the body, and how to apply this knowledge to feel better. I specialize in treating trauma, depression, anxiety, dual diagnosis involving addiction and mental illness, positive psychology, and holistic healing. The mind is a powerful tool. With specific therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy, (changing one’s thoughts to then change one’s emotions and behaviors), we can restructure our brain to operate in a more optimal manner, resulting in less stress, anxiety and depression symptoms, and more meaning, joy and fulfillment. With my therapeutic expertise, concrete tools, empathy, and compassion, I will guide you towards the best version of yourself who is better equipped to handle life’s stressors and make positive changes.

First, let me introduce myself and share what working with me will be like.   My practice focuses on balancing acceptance and change—embracing who you are and your life-circumstances, while also encouraging progress and self-transformation. College (and life in general) can be a lot. Whether you're adjusting to a big transition, feeling disconnected from yourself and those around you, or trying to make sense of things that have happened in your life, you don't have to figure it out alone. I’m a therapist who works with adolescents, young adults, and caregivers, with a special focus on supporting LGBTQ+ folks. I'm part of the LGBTQ community too. I work from a trauma-informed and anti-oppression lens, which means I pay attention to the full context of your life and how the world around you has shaped your experiences. My style is warm, collaborative, and down to earth. I bring humor when it's helpful, and I don't expect you to show up any particular way. You can be messy, unsure, overwhelmed. I’ll meet you there without judgment. Everyone deserves to feel safe and heard. Therapy with me is a place to slow down, get curious, and start making sense of what’s been hard while finding your way back to yourself. I take insurance and offer a free 15-minute call to see if we're a good fit. I look forward to hearing from you!

Having spent part of my life in Europe and Africa, my background helps me work with a diverse range of clients - from college students and veterans to corporate employees and expats. I am a clinical psychologist and cultural psychologist (Rutgers, PsyD; Harvard, BA) with 19 years of experience providing psychotherapy to adults. My specialties include depression, trauma, and anxiety as well as stress, life transitions, cultural adjustment, and relationship issues. I am a caring, interactive therapist and use an integrative approach (ACT, CBT, psychodynamic, and mindfulness techniques) to provide you with a safe space to heal and practice new tools as you reset your life compass. I see therapy as a gift to yourself: making time to build knowledge, awareness, and compassion, try new behaviors, and improve your quality of life. Change is possible at any age if there is courage, flexibility, willingness, and action. I also believe that a variety of things can help us heal and enrich our lives (e.g. music, sports, nature, friendships). Entering into therapy can feel overwhelming and vulnerable. My initial goals are always to understand what brings you into therapy, give you a sense of how I practice, and talk together about whether I am a good fit for you. I encourage an ongoing and open conversation about our treatment relationship and progress towards your goals. I practice from the fundamental belief that healing can occur in an attuned, compassionate relationship marked by curiosity. Clients describe me as interactive, collaborative, warm, and nonjudgemental. My practice is heavily influenced by mindfulness-based approaches. It is a privilege to support clients in making sense of the challenges they are facing, enhance their comfort with riding waves of strong feeling, and to respond to their thoughts and feelings in a more compassionate way.

Through my own lived experience, I can deeply resonate with the realities my Millennial and Gen Z clients face. Dating, social media, politics, finances, and demands from school or work can be so daunting. My main priority as a therapist is to create a non-judgmental, engaging, and approachable environment where you feel empowered to navigate these challenges together. Just having one of those days where you need to vent about your mom, partner, or roommate? There’s plenty of space for that too. While I pull from many approaches in my work, I especially enjoy utilizing skills-based therapies like Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I). These can address concerns like anxiety, stress, interpersonal conflict, sleep, and more. My goal is that you leave each and every session feeling more ready to take on what life is throwing your way. If you’re looking to gain control amidst our out-of-control world, I’d love to connect with you. Please don’t hesitate in reaching out for a free 15-minute consultation.
