Therapists for college students near 53715
The students I work best with are often balancing a lot at once. They may be trying to keep up with classes, work, family responsibilities, relationships, or uncertainty about their future while also managing stress, anxiety, burnout, or self-doubt. Many of the students I see are high-achieving and hardworking, but underneath the surface they feel overwhelmed, exhausted, stuck, or like they're carrying more than other people realize. Some are adjusting to college life, navigating major life transitions, or trying to figure out who they are and what they want for themselves. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, academic stress, confidence, or simply feeling lost, therapy can provide a supportive space to better understand yourself and develop tools to move forward. My goal is to create a welcoming, judgment-free environment where you can be yourself, explore what's getting in the way, and build the skills and confidence needed to thrive both in college and beyond.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist and Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. For me, being a physician is more than a profession—it is a vocation to help indviduals flourish. My practice is devoted to students and young adults seeking thoughtful, individualized psychiatric care that extends beyond symptom relief. I provide comprehensive evaluations that consider medical, nutritional, lifestyle, and psychological factors—including laboratory testing when clinically appropriate—to identify the contributors to emotional and cognitive health. I also specialize in evidence-based de-prescribing for patients who wish to reduce or discontinue psychiatric medications for anxiety, attention difficulties, or substance use disorders. My approach is guided by precision, humility, and restraint: using the least intensive intervention necessary while drawing upon the full breadth of evidence-based medicine. Depending on each patient's needs and goals, I integrate psychotherapy, nutrition, lifestyle medicine, exercise, targeted supplementation, and, when appropriate, carefully selected medications into a personalized treatment plan. In addition to my clinical work, I have presented internationally on psychiatric deprescribing and medical ethics. My work has been recognized with awards from the American Psychiatric Association, the International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions, the American Psychoanalytic Association, and other leading professional organizations. I am the Founder & Medical Director of Verigrate Health. I am licensed to serve patients in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Lousiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Washington, D.C., and Wisconsin.
You didn’t end up here because you’re weak, you ended up here because carrying everything alone most likely became too heavy. I work with teens (15+), adults, and couples to break out of patterns around self-esteem, trauma, substance use, and relationships. Therapy with me is warm and honest and I aim to create a space where you feel safe and supported yet challenged to confront what keeps you stuck. I became a therapist because I’ve been on the other side of struggle and I know how powerful it can be to feel truly understood. In particular, I relate well with teens who are struggling with self-esteem, school struggles, and stress related to their future. Please reach out today if you are looking for someone who truly “gets it”.

You may look capable and successful on the outside, but inside, you feel overwhelmed, exhausted, anxious, or unsure of yourself. Many of the students I work best with are used to setting high expectations for themselves. You may put pressure on yourself to succeed, struggle with perfectionism, or feel like you are falling behind even when others think you are doing well. I also enjoy working with international students and students navigating different cultures. You may be balancing school with family expectations, relationships, questions about who you are and where you belong, or the stress of adapting to life away from home. Past difficult experiences may also be affecting how you feel and respond to stress today. In our work together, you do not have to have everything figured out. We can slow things down, understand what is happening beneath the surface, and find practical ways to manage difficult emotions and everyday stress. My goal is to help you feel more grounded, understand yourself more deeply, and approach your life and relationships with greater confidence and choice.

Hi! My main goal is always to help my clients to help themselves, so you feel empowered to embrace stress and change as it comes. With experience working in an eating disorder hospital and 7 years working as a therapist in the Athletic Depts at UT Austin and CU Boulder, I've been involved with supporting my clients through the life challenges that high schoolers, young adults, and adults face for my entire professional career. I am EMDR certified and use this to treat trauma, eating disorders, chronic pain, urges in addiction/EDs, and sport performance (both positive reinforcement as well as treating mental blocks). I particularly enjoy teaching tools for navigating anxiety and depressive symptoms, helping to make peace with body image, and supporting mental performance for sport. I also have a passion for supporting perfectionists to expand their view of themselves and learn to release a little of the control that is actually controlling them!
Feeling like you don't quite "fit in" or struggling under the weight of perfectionism can be incredibly overwhelming. Whether you are a young person navigating peer pressures or an adult facing a "what’s next" transition, I am here to help you manage that stress and find your footing. Together, we will work on building your confidence and finding the self-assurance you need to move forward. You don't have to carry the pressure of "getting it right" all by yourself. All sessions are conducted via video chat style.
Hello, I'm Melissa. I support students to get clear on their academic path, work through difficult emotions, and feel more confident and grounded. Many of my clients come to me feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or unsure about their direction in life. Others struggle with perfectionism, burnout, or relationship challenges. I have 20 years experience as a clinical social worker, and I offer a safe, supportive and easy-going approach. I like to infuse mindfulness and humor into my sessions, while also keeping my clients on task and clear about goals. Over the years, I’ve helped hundreds of students heal, grow, and create more meaningful lives. I also specialize in helping clients strengthen their intuition. If you want to see if we're a good fit, I offer free 15 minute consultations so I can learn more about you and get a better sense of how I might be able to help. I work with college students and adults who are dealing with the pressure of academics, social dynamics, and the big transitions that come with this stage of life. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, stress, or feeling disconnected from yourself, I’m here to help. Together, we can explore how to manage the demands of school, relationships, and future goals, while also addressing any underlying beliefs or past experiences that may be affecting you. What is your communication style? I focus on creating a comfortable, judgment-free environment built on trust and respect. Depending on what feels right for you, I can offer quiet reflection or take a more proactive, coaching-style approach. My goal is to adapt to your unique needs, making sure our time together feels collaborative and safe so you can explore your challenges at your own pace. How do you approach goal setting with clients? When we set goals, we’ll look at three main areas: what’s happening in your life right now, how past experiences or beliefs may be shaping your current behaviors, and what you want to achieve in the future. We’ll break things down into manageable steps, adjusting along the way as needed to help you move toward your goals, whether that’s feeling more confident, managing stress better, or making big life decisions. What should clients expect during a first session with you? In our first session, we’ll focus on getting to know each other. You can share about your college experience, relationships, and what’s currently causing stress or frustration. I’ll listen closely, and together we’ll identify some initial goals to work on. By the end of the session, I hope you’ll feel heard and leave with a sense of hope and direction for what’s next. Tell us about your journey to becoming a therapist. I’ve always been sensitive to emotions and found art and creativity to be healing when I was younger. During college, I struggled with panic attacks, and that experience led me to discover the power of therapy and healing techniques. My journey inspired me to help others going through similar challenges. Now, I combine traditional therapy with mindfulness and energy healing, using what I’ve learned to help college students like you find balance, heal, and grow.
