I help bright, dynamic students deal with the anxiety and overwhelm that can creep up as you're out there doing what you always thought you were supposed to be doing. You work really hard but it's getting harder to hold it all together as you wrestle with the doubts and the stress. Your relationships might be feeling less than happy and fulfilling lately, or you're just plain overwhelmed. On the outside, you look like you have it all together - but that doesn't make you feel OK on the inside. I help people like you learn how to finally feel good about themselves, balance school work and self care, build strong relationships, manage anxiety and stress, and feel less alone and overwhelmed. You're not out of options - in fact, therapy could be the start of a great new chapter in your life.

I help college students, graduate students, and university faculty manage stress, cope with painful emotions, and navigate school, work, and relationships. Higher education offers a huge opportunity for growth and self-discovery, but it also presents unique stressors and challenges. In addition to treating anxiety and depression, I work regularly with issues of perfectionism, peer comparison, academic pressure, and burnout. I also help clients build healthy friendships and partnerships, explore identity issues, adjust to new situations and life phases, and examine possible career directions. I believe that great therapy is tailored to meet clients’ needs and goals, so I integrate a variety of approaches into my work, including insight-oriented methods, mindfulness practices, and cognitive behavioral techniques. Depending on what a client brings to each session, we might work on specific tools to address a current problem, examine the origins of a long-standing pattern, or explore some of life’s biggest questions together. I believe in the inherent resiliency of my clients, and I empower them to tap into their inner strengths and resources. At the foundation of my practice is always the relationship with my clients, which is built on mutual trust and active collaboration. My professional training includes degrees in Psychology (BA, Harvard University), Social Work (MSW, University of Chicago), and Higher Education (EdD, Northeastern University), along with experience in university counseling, academic and career advising, community mental health, and international education. Clients describe me as authentic, attentive, compassionate, and dedicated. While I am not in-network for any insurance providers, many university students have out-of-network benefits that they can use to seek insurance reimbursement for our sessions. I am happy to assist clients in this process. Please visit my website for more information. I am based in Cambridge MA and licensed across MA, NY, DC, and CT.

I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and Psychotherapist who works with individuals of all ages and various presenting concerns, but I specialize in working with young adults (ages 18-35) who are experiencing mental health, substance use, or life-transitional issues (e.g. beginning college, launching into adulthood, managing relationships, grief/loss, etc.). Drawing from various theories in understanding the roots of suffering and discontentment, I take a non-judgmental, curious, compassionate approach to guiding you to a place of healing and wellness. No matter what circumstances led us to where we are today, I believe that we all have the potential to be happy and content. It takes work to get there, but with a commitment to therapy, you’ll soon find yourself on the path to a better future. Choosing to begin therapy and addressing difficult emotions, behaviors, and thinking patterns head on is an act of courage and bravery. I’ve been part of the Harvard Medical School system for over a decade, first as a trainee, now as faculty member. I'm trained primarily in psychodynamic therapy, but principles/interventions from other paradigms also inform my work, and I love working with students. Ultimately, the nature of therapy depends on the patient, what they are up against, and their goals. For this reason, the course of therapy is difficult to describe, but I think it only ever works in a context of empathy, respect, and compassion, not to mention humor (sometimes life can only be laughed at). This is a perspective I lay out in some detail in a recently published, two-volume book, titled, "A Humane Vision of Clinical Psychology." Generally speaking, I would be a good fit for someone looking to understand and change established patterns, and to find relief from associated symptoms. Currently, I am contracted with the student insurances at Tufts and BC, which make sessions very inexpensive for students.

In my experience as a psychotherapist and psychoanalyst, I've heard many times: "I want to be happy, to feel peaceful inside myself, but I can't seem to get there" or "I feel badly telling my friends and family. I don't want to worry them, and I fear they will get tired of listening to me." There are many reasons people feel stuck in their anxiety, depression, eating disorders, body concerns, phase of life issues or relationship problems, and feel immobilized by them. A supportive therapy relationship can help you feel more at peace, happier, and more self-confident. Psychotherapy is a unique, supportive space where you can address your worries, conflicts and hopes without judgment, understand what's holding you back, and move forward towards lasting results and a happier, more fully lived life. I work with people who are described above My office is between Harvard Square and Central Square, on the Red Line. I look forward to speaking with you soon.

Are you caught up in OCD, anxiety, perfectionism, or a phobia that is preventing you from living life on your own terms? Do you feel stuck in your own mind and overwhelmed by simply getting through the day? I am passionate about helping older teens and adults get unstuck from unhelpful "stuff." I offer individual therapy for motivated people who are tired of accommodating their OCD or phobia, can't avoid their anxiety any longer, and are sick of being trapped in their own thoughts. Our sessions together can be a space of exploration, personal development, confidence-building, and healing. I am accepting new clients in MA (in-person & virtual), ME (virtual), & CT (virtual). I use a collaborative, exploratory, and genuine approach to help you feel heard, safe, and encouraged. I have specialized training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Inference-based Cognitive Behavior Therapy for OCD (I-CBT). Let's work together to develop a plan to improve your quality of life. While this will mean confronting uncertainty, acknowledging fears, and changing behavioral patterns, the goal is to bring you closer to living the life you deserve. We will take this one step at a time, together. If you're curious to learn more, I encourage you to reach out. Let’s chat!

Therapy is an opportunity to make meaning of our experiences and achieve agency in the here and now. My goal is to partner and collaborate with my clients in that process. I am deeply interested in how we tell the stories of our lives and use those stories to cope, make sense of reality, and understand ourselves. Grounded in trauma-informed psychodynamic and relational practice, I draw from cognitive behavioral, narrative, and mindfulness therapies, with a particular belief in the importance of the therapeutic relationship. I provide individual therapy to adults of all ages and backgrounds and specialize in depression, anxiety, grief and bereavement, life transitions and adjustment to new circumstances, gender and sexuality, complex trauma, identity, relationships and substance use. I have worked in palliative care at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where I served on the racial justice committee, the values of which I strive to bring to all of my work. I also have a background as a theater professional and love working with people navigating the nuances, joys, and complexities of creative life.

As an Advanced Fellow at Clinical Alliance Services, I use psychodynamic, developmental, systems, and relational approaches in my work, incorporating cognitive, behavioral, and mindfulness techniques, as clinically appropriate. By being open to learning about the past and how we evolved, I believe we can find different ways of being in the present that alleviate suffering and support creativity and openness. I try to help clients see and appreciate their own emotions and strengths and to be curious about how they might be stuck or blocked. I strive to help each person seek and support their unique place in the world. I offer individuals and couples therapy to adults of all ages for depression, anxiety, conflict avoidance, relational difficulties, self-esteem, and life transitions and adjustments. I am curious about what motivates us and how/why we are driven to move in specific directions in our lives. I appreciate the amazing variety in how individuals grow and develop. I trained at the Boston Psychoanalytic Society & Institute and the Psychodynamic Couple & Family Institute of New England. I worked for decades as a lawyer and divorce mediator in my earlier career, counseling individuals, couples and institutions on their rights and responsibilities and helping them identify arrays of possible solutions for their problems.

I believe that the most profound healing happens in connection with others. I utilize a psychodynamic, client-centered approach which prioritizes connecting meaningfully with my clients on their own terms, and allowing my client's needs to drive the direction of therapy. I draw on my training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and family / couples therapy to enrich my work with individuals. I am a postgraduate Fellow at Clinical Alliance Services, LLC and the Psychodynamic Couple & Family Institute of New England. I offer individual and couples therapy to adults of all ages and identities who have a range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, relationship disruptions, trauma, grief, life transitions, identity and self-esteem. As a former sexual violence advocate and consent educator, I create safe containers for folks to grapple with experiences of sexual trauma. I have a passion for working with queer clients and clients exploring alternative relationship structures like ethical non-monogamy and polyamory. I am committed to upholding an anti-oppressive and liberation framework in every encounter and feel that it is crucial to understand the role that systemic oppression plays in our lives.

My therapeutic approach is grounded in psychodynamic and relational theories with a focus on facilitating insight and healing. I seek to understand the heart of one’s challenges and how present struggles are tied to one’s past and current environment, relationships, and identity development. My clinical work is informed by cognitive-behavioral approaches, mindfulness, trauma, Buddhism, social identity, and oppression. My therapeutic style is warm, compassionate, and curious, and I deeply value co-creating a therapeutic space with clients that invites authenticity and vulnerability. I offer individual psychotherapy to adults of all ages navigating mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, relationship challenges, low self-esteem, grief, spirituality, identity development and life transitions. I also work with clients who would like to improve their general quality of life or explore themes related to meaning, purpose, and transformation. I have studied Buddhism and psychology over the past decade at UMass Amherst, Harvard University, and Smith College. I have also engaged in intensive Buddhist practice, including a significant number of silent meditation retreats. As a Bi-racial/Black man, I have an interest in exploring and embodying liberating forms of masculinity for Men of Color.
