Therapists for college students near 02138
Hello and welcome! I am a clinical psychologist, and outside of my private practice, I am also on faculty at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. I specialize in evidence-based treatments for OCD, anxiety, and related disorders. Anxiety and fear can limit our lives in a number of ways, leading us to withdraw from people and activities we care about. I use cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), the gold standard treatment for anxiety, OCD, and related disorders, to help you develop the skills necessary to cope with your symptoms and build a life worth living. I am a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in CBT and exposure therapy for OCD and anxiety disorders (e.g., agoraphobia, panic, phobias, generalized anxiety). I also treat hair-pulling, skin-picking, depression, and perfectionism, and provide skills to help regulate difficult emotions. Please don't hesitate to reach out for a consultation!
Dr. V is a Harvard trained psychologist with over 25 years experience. She works with individuals that want to improve their mood and their life. She uses evidence based practices including compassion based CBT, ACT, DBT, movement and mind-body work practices to help you find strategies that work for you. She offers workshops, groups as well as individual, couple and family work.
I specialize in working with young adults and adults navigating anxiety, trauma, identity concerns, and major life transitions. Many of my clients are managing high expectations—whether external or internal—that leave them feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected. I offer a space to explore painful emotions, heal from past experiences, and reconnect with your values to build a life that feels grounded and meaningful.
I am a clinical social worker and expressive art therapist. I'm passionate about art and mental health education and use both to support people as they develop skills and learn therapeutic tools to manage symptoms. In individual therapy, I enjoy working with young adults to help them develop positive relationships with themselves. I want to learn about you, how you think, how you learned those things, and what truly energizes you. Therapy can focus on processing the past using art and EMDR while also focusing on falling in love with the present. My speciality is using expressive art in therapy. Whether you believe yourself to be creative or not, my hope is to guide you through different ways to use art for relaxation and self-expression in group, individual, and family sessions. Sometimes words are not enough.
I am a LICSW with over fifteen years of experience where I collaborate with clients to discover a resiliency within themselves. My most rewarding experiences have been with young adults who may be just beginning or those returning to college and managing the challenges that arise. I work with individuals who may experience a range of issues including anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, adjusting to life transitions and those impacted by trauma and systems of oppression. I bring warmth, compassion and sometimes humor to our conversations and enjoy working with individuals who are interested in understanding more about themselves and how they move through the world.
Are you suffering with anxiety, stress, problems with a relationship, mood disorder, medical issues, or difficulties adjusting to life changes? I will work collaboratively with you, teaching new tools to help manage and decrease symptoms and improve your well being. Finding a therapist can take time as it is a very personal process. It is important to get a sense that we could work well together. I encourage you to contact me if you are interested in learning more about my practice. As former Director of Behavioral Medicine at Mass General North, Children's Hospital in Salem, MA, I have over 20 years working with problems such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, stress related problems (including GI distress and headaches), self-injurious behavior, and anxiety. I specialize in treating young adults with these issues. *When emailing me, please specify what you are seeking therapy for!* My practice is rooted in the belief that everyone is worthy of health, recovery, and a positive relationship with food and their body, no matter their size. My goal is to create a space that feels safe and supportive enough to make positive change happen. I specialize in eating disorders (Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, OSFED), self-esteem challenges, anxiety disorders, depression, and self-harming behaviors in young adults (18+) and adults and am currently the assistant clinical director of a nationally recognized eating disorder outpatient program. I utilize evidence-based treatment approaches including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing (MI). My approach is strengths-based and person-centered, with the belief that therapy is not "one size fits all." We will work as a team to figure out what is most supportive and effective for you. Recovering from disordered eating in a society that encourages it IS possible. If you are ready to take the next step in your recovery, I would love to schedule a phone consultation with you to see if we would be a good fit.
Due to the pandemic, I currently only offer telehealth visits.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck in your head, or unsure of who you are or where you’re going, you don’t have to navigate it alone. Therapy can be a space where you feel grounded and comfortable showing up as you are, without pressure or judgment, while we make sense of what’s been weighing on you. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, stress, self-doubt, relationship challenges, family conflict, or major life transitions, my goal is to make you feel supported and respected while you gain insight and confidence in who you are and how to manage whatever comes your way. I work with adolescents, teens, and young adults navigating the pressures of school, relationships, identity development, and expectations from others (and themselves). I also specialize in supporting athletes with confidence, focus, motivation, and returning to sport after injury while staying focused on who you are beyond performance. My approach is collaborative and person-centered. You are the expert on your life, and my role is to help you identify your strengths and values, develop practical tools, and build momentum toward meaningful change. I draw from EMDR, CBT, DBT, ACT, and Solution-Focused strategies in ways that are flexible and tailored to your needs and values.

I use different counseling modalities based on what clients presented needs such as evidence-based approach Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic, Person Centered, Multicultural, and Strength-Based Therapy. Spending your days replaying conversations, struggling to start tasks, or feeling like your brain just works differently can be exhausting. ADHD can leave you feeling constantly behind, anxiety keeps the inner noise turned up, and depression makes it hard to stay connected. I work with adults navigating these patterns, as well as individuals processing trauma or working through substance use. Whether you’re trying to quiet the noise or figure out why you process the world differently, sessions feel like a real, grounded conversation with low pressure, genuine warmth, and plenty of space to think out loud. Within a few weeks, people start noticing patterns they hadn't seen before, like what drives the cycle and what actually helps. I draw from CBT, DBT, ACT, motivational interviewing, and psychodynamic therapy. Instead of a rigid model, I use these tools flexibly, focusing on actionable strategies, self-awareness, and approaches tailored specifically to you. How we learned to connect early in life shows up everywhere, from our communication to our boundaries and daily stress. My goal is to help you understand who you are, make sense of what has gotten in the way, and build practical tools that fit your life. I offer a free consultation. Reach out today and let us see if we are a good fit.
Hello, my name is Dr. Sarah O'Neil. I'm a psychiatrist (medical doctor who can prescribe) currently practicing entirely by telehealth. I am passionate about my work. I am warm and real. I will greet you with a smile, and talk to you like a fellow human. In addition to medication and evidence based therapies, I use humor, irreverence, thought provoking quotes, essays, websites, apps and video clips to introduce concepts such as self care, self compassion, boundary setting and effective coping skills. I provide a thorough initial assessment over the first several appointments, during which time we each figure out if we are a good match for working together. At the completion of the initial assessment, if we agree to work together, I will present a menu of reasonable treatment options that may include medication as well as CBT, DBT and mindfulness based therapy. If you are seeking professional help and are ready to engage collaboratively in an environment of hope and non-judgment to understand yourself through the lens of compassion, we may be a good fit. The best way to arrange an intake is to call my work phone: 617-622-3990. I have been treating/collaborating with/ advocating for college students for my entire career. I see people who have mood disorders, all the anxiety disorders (e.g. generalized anxiety, OCD, panic disorder, social phobia) I also have expertise in assessing and treating people with eating disorders. There is a question below about communities I support. All are welcome in my practice. Hate has no place in my office. I have experience supporting people who have felt the effects of weight or mental health stigma, as well as working mothers and women with or a history of post-partum depression.
College can look exciting on the outside and feel overwhelming on the inside. I work with students who are dealing with anxiety that won’t quiet down, focus that feels impossible, mood changes, burnout, or the pressure to keep it all together. If things feel harder than they should, you’re not alone. As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I provide thoughtful, personalized medication management. I take time to listen, explain options in clear language, and work with you to build a plan that feels manageable and realistic for your life. You deserve support that feels steady, respectful, and not rushed.
The treatment I provide is influenced by relational, attachment-based, and psychodynamic modalities. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, life transitions, identity concerns, trauma, and stress related to work and relationships. I work with adults of all ages and backgrounds to address their presenting symptoms, as well as explore the underlying roots of these symptoms to establish long-term benefits. I believe therapy is most effective when there is a trusting and open therapeutic relationship, so we will work together to identify a meaningful approach to your care. I’m experienced in working with culturally diverse and LGBTQ populations. Prior to earning my degree in counseling, I worked with LGBTQ youth and young adults in the Boston community at a nonprofit organization dedicated to health education. I understand how difficult it can be to find a good match in therapy, I encourage you to contact me for an initial phone call, and we can discuss how we might work together.
