I believe that within a strong, collaborative relationship, problem-focused therapeutic goals can be reached in a timely manner. I see adolescents and young adults with a variety of presenting problems, including: anxiety, depression, inattention and distractibility, relational difficulties, and the complicated interaction between managing a chronic medical condition and maintaining psychological well being. Both in-person and virtual therapy sessions are offered. Call for a consultation to see if I'm the right fit for you.
College can be an exciting time, but it can also feel overwhelming. Many of the students we work with are balancing academic pressure, relationships, family expectations, and big questions about identity and the future. If you find yourself feeling anxious, burned out, lonely, or unsure of your direction, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to figure it out by yourself. At Pacifica Counseling & Psychiatry, we provide a supportive space where students can slow down, talk honestly about what they’re going through, and develop tools to move forward with more clarity and confidence. Our team works with students navigating stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, life transitions, and the pressure to “have everything figured out.” We believe every person’s story is unique, and counseling should reflect that. Whether you’re looking for practical strategies, a place to process life’s challenges, or support during a difficult season, our clinicians are here to help you build resilience and reconnect with a sense of peace and purpose. We look forward to working with you!
While active listening is an important skill for a therapist, listening can only go so far. Our practice belief is that we actually help you help yourself make the necessary changes in your life by giving you techniques, tools, skills, and guidance to achieve your goals. You'll almost always walk out of a session with a new technique or two that you can go home and start using immediately. Our practice has highly trained therapists, are personable, and we're ready to give you the skills and techniques you need to create change. While any given technique doesn't work for everyone and most people need a plethora of techniques, we'll be sure to give you the techniques and tools that we think are most appropriate for you every time you are here.
Helping You Be True – Therapy for Trauma Survivors, Marginalized People, & Healthy Masculinity: Life can be too much for all of us at times – and what gets us through this overwhelm can sometimes limit us later on. Whether you are overwhelmed now or caught in patterns that limit you, I want to help free you to enjoy more meaningful experiences in life. As a Licensed Psychologist with over 15 years of clinical experience, I specialize in working with adults who are struggling with how they have been hurt and limited by others and have developed patterns that limit them and their relationships. I work especially well with adult survivors of childhood trauma, people with marginalized identities, and helping men develop healthy masculinity. Together, we can help you heal your wounds, grow beyond your present limits, and feel more free to be true to yourself. Skilled therapists are inherently understanding, accepting, and genuine. In addition to these, my clients experience me as particularly warm, calming, sensitive, and lighthearted. It is important to me that in every session, we make space to honor the depth of your struggles, you feel truly valued, and we help you make manageable progress toward your goals. This progress comes from integrating the best available research with my clinical expertise and your unique needs, values, and preferences. In therapy, I primarily use a contemporary psychoanalytic approach that explores how you respond to your emotions, how this influences your relationships, and how these patterns might be reenacted between us. By helping you heal and grow, we will work toward changing your patterns to be true to you. I am committed to therapy because I know firsthand the transformative power of how sharing my struggles with a skilled therapist who is willing to join me can make them easier to bear and overcome. I have developed my specialties with trauma survivors, marginalized people, and healthy masculinity to contribute to a more socially just world in which everyone can heal, social systems improve, and cultures become more compassionate. Beyond my above specialties, I provide therapy for the wide range of concerns listed below. I meet with clients in-person at my calm, comfortable, and private office in a professional business park in East Cobb, Georgia. Hi, I'm Marilyn. Reaching out for help is often intimidating, especially if you're unsure where to begin. Everyone’s process in therapy will look different, and I’m eager to work with you to discover what that will be. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is most important in this process, and I understand the need to find a good fit. Whether it’s depression, anxiety, stress related to classes, significant life transitions, relationship issues, etc., I will walk with you along your path to healing. Therapy can be a tool to increase self-compassion, understand our emotions, improve relationships, and offer healing. I work with individuals and couples. We all have narratives that guide our lives. Sometimes we get stuck in a narrative that is no longer effective, or we have a difficult time making sense of our experiences. Talking with someone from an objective point of view can help you make sense of your experiences and find meaning in them. I am also a trauma-informed clinician and trained in EMDR.
The Marriage Point is located in Marietta, GA. Our goal is to equip and empower individuals to be the best version of themselves and to live relationally-oriented lives. All people deserve to be in intimate, secure and passionate relationships.

College can look like you have everything figured out while quietly feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or unsure of who you actually are. Maybe you were used to being the “smart one” or the one who had it together, and now you’re realizing you feel… average. You’re studying harder but barely getting B’s or C’s or even failing, thinking about dropping a class, or questioning whether you’re even on the right path. You might be considering changing your major (again), taking a leave for your mental health, or feeling pressure to graduate on time so you don’t fall behind your friends. You might also be trying to figure out what you actually want to do with your life, feeling overwhelmed by career decisions, grad school applications, or exams like the MCAT or LSAT. Or you’re navigating friendships, your identity, dating, and independence for the first time and realizing it’s not as easy as it was told to you. I work best with college students and young adults who are thoughtful, self-aware, and tired of being stuck in their own head. You might look like you’re doing fine on the outside, but internally feel anxious, disconnected, or unsure of your direction. Therapy with me is collaborative and real. We don’t just talk about what’s going on. We slow things down, understand the patterns underneath it, and figure out how to actually move forward in a way that fits your life. I’m not a one-size-fits-all or “just use these coping skills” therapist. Some sessions we process, some we build tools, and some we focus on getting you unstuck and taking action. The goal is not just awareness, but change that feels realistic and sustainable. If you’re tired of overthinking everything, second-guessing yourself, or feeling like you’re falling behind while everyone else seems fine, therapy can be a space to figure things out without having to pretend you have it all together. Many college students I work with are trying therapy for the first time. You don’t need to have everything figured out or know exactly what your goals are yet, but it does help to have some sense that you want things to feel different and are open to looking at yourself more honestly. This work goes beyond venting or quick fixes. It’s about understanding patterns, building insight, and applying that in real life, even when that process feels uncomfortable at times.
