I became a therapist after working for many years in business and finance. I was fortunate to then complete a master's and subsequently a doctoral program in Psychology. This professional and academic experience supports the therapy I've been providing for over a decade. By connecting academic theories with my clients' real-life situations and an empathic and thoughtful style, I seek to help clients understand themselves better while supporting their movement forward in positive directions. In addition to working as a therapist, I have written about long-term success for couples and workplace stress and have led therapy groups on these topics as well as anxiety and depression. I specialize in these areas working with couples and individuals. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with experience working with individuals, couples, families, and groups. I work with those struggling with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, substance use, and relational issues. I gravitate toward using Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Gottman methods in my approach to build understanding of your inner dialogue, your values, and how to create more fulfillment in your life. While working with couples, I support building trust through assertion practice, role playing, shifting toward appreciation, and improving communication techniques especially when in conflict. My therapeutic style is a balance of building trust through understanding and asking intentional questions to get to the heart of the issue. My approach integrates processing unaddressed emotions, challenging unhelpful narratives, and building new strategies to manage life stressors in its many stages. I'm a therapist with Octave and Evernorth Behavioral Care Group. Octave is a mental health practice providing high-quality care covered by multiple insurances. Evernorth Behavioral Care Group is a behavioral health provider group in-network with Cigna Healthcare and Evernorth. For my availability, please reach out to Octave’s team by emailing or calling.

I enjoy working with clients from diverse backgrounds and have experience working around trauma and crisis. I am passionate about creating a nonjudgmental and supportive environment for clients and serving as a reliable resource for them while they heal from current and past crises. My approach to therapy is integrative and through a trauma-informed and multicultural lens. I respect and have deep appreciation for clients who invite me into their lives allowing me to witness their truth: the past traumas that inform their current perspectives; the ongoing struggles with racism, colonialism, and prejudice; and the hopes and dreams they continue to cultivate despite all of life’s challenges. Hello! I am a clinical psychologist who specializes in working with young adults, LGBTQ+ people (especially trans and non-binary), trauma, and emotional instability. My clients often come from backgrounds where they feel misunderstood and invalidated. They sometimes feel frustrated with their important relationships, or like they're stuck on an emotional roller coaster, or like they have trouble relaxing and feeling safe. In therapy, I create an accepting, non-judgmental environment where my clients can feel truly seen. From there, I help clients understand themselves, what they want to change in their lives, and how to reach their goals. I completed my training at college counseling centers and a hospital program serving college students. I know the challenges college students face, and I love helping students overcome those challenges. If you think we might be a good fit for therapy, please reach out! I offer free 15 minute consultation calls for anyone interested. I am currently offering therapy in person in Berkeley, CA on Saturdays and over Zoom Tuesday-Saturday in California, New York, and Virginia.

Early adulthood can be a confusing, tumultuous time. You may be forging an identity, dealing with instability in living situations, academics, career, or relationships, and perhaps caught up in the painful effects of complex trauma from childhood and adolescence. Financial and career stress in a confusing economy doesn't help. I resonate most with young adults struggling with family of origin issues, discrimination, and experiences of trauma and loss. These issues and experiences often lead to depression, anxiety, and worries about not being good enough or able to make healthy decisions. I am able to be present when you are hopeless and help you see the good within. My approach flexible and catered to your needs. What brings you to therapy is a focus, but I also acknowledge that the past informs the present. We may take that past on directly or keep it in mind as a minor theme. Insight combined with action are often the keys to change.

Direct, empathic, collaborative, trauma-informed. The purpose of therapy, from my perspective, is working to gain understanding about yourself and the underlying rationale for what makes you you so that you can take steps to be the best version of yourself. I tailor my approach to each individual's unique needs and work with them to actively restructure the patterns of thought and behavior that are keeping them stuck and unhappy, allowing them to move through life with a greater sense of freedom, clarity, confidence and purpose. My ultimate goal is to empower individuals to live fuller, more satisfying lives.

My deep belief, rooted in both my practice as a therapist and in my experience healing my own trauma, is that our brains and bodies have the innate ability to heal from trauma when provided with a safe enough space to connect to and experience our internal world. As human beings, we are neurobiologically wired to be in relationships with others. For that reason, I have also learned that a key aspect of trauma recovery involves being in the presence of someone who can create safety and hold space for us to explore our own internal landscapes, somatically experiencing and releasing unprocessed emotions, and the stuck survival response trapped in the body. In therapy, I take a person-centered approach—you’ll get a chance to share all of your feelings and be heard and understood. I consider my approach holistic and integrative, using interventions informed by Polyvagal Theory and different experiential and body-based modalities such as Brainspotting, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT). We will collaborate on what approach will be helpful and when. This collaboration will help us feel on the same page and help you feel more connected to yourself and more clear and confident about the therapy process. If you are open to approaches that are alternative to traditional talk therapy and ‘ready to do the work,’ I’d be honored to hold space for you! My training in community mental health settings was an incredible experience as I worked with people battling depression, anxiety, PTSD, and trauma. I have also worked with clients convicted of sexually abusive behaviors. However, I am quite versatile, and I have worked with people needing help in many areas of their lives. I am a psychodynamically trained psychologist. I also believe in using an integrated approach when helping someone to understand the how and why of what got them to this point in their life. I have found that an integrative approach to therapy works best. If a client has a non-Western approach to coping with life issues, that can be integrated into the treatment. I adapt my approach to what is best suited for you the client. It is my goal to build a therapeutic relationship with you by creating a safe and healing environment where you feel safe to explore your thoughts, feelings, and emotions. I have worked with many diverse populations from people who practice Native American spirituality, to people with a Yogic flavor to their approaches to life, to working with those in underserved communities. I have worked with people from all cultural backgrounds. I also have worked with people with diverse sexual orientations. In helping people, I lean toward a strengths-based, attachment, and systems approach. I strongly believe that a significant change in one person can impact the entire system. I also believe that a holistic, mindfulness and cognitive approach coupled with behavioral changes is effective for many clients. Additionally, I interweave my trauma-informed background to support clients through their presenting concerns. It's my strong belief, however that each individual is a unique being. I thoroughly enjoy partnering with my clients throughout the therapeutic process while addressing their objectives for therapy. Ultimately, I believe in the power of connection. The relationships we have with others influence our health, thoughts, feelings, or stories we tell about ourselves. I am passionate about cultivating a healing connection to help individuals perceive their greatest selves so they know that they matter.
