My approach is warm, non-judgmental, and driven by curiosity. I am drawn to the big and small questions of life. I have a strong belief that the more you bring of yourself into the therapy space, the more profound our work can be. Every part of you and your experience is welcome. I take a non-pathologizing approach to therapy. You are more than your challenges - many defenses or problem behaviors were or are attempts to deal with or survive difficult situations. You might be aware of these already or looking for an outsider's perspective - in any case, you are not "wrong" or "bad" for not having the tools to do better. As Maya Angelou said, "Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better." (By the way, I love quotes and quoting all the smart people!)

I am an eclectic therapist which means, I take from wherever I can to get the job done right! In my experience as a community mental health counselor, I've worked with many situations and conditions - all requiring their own personalized approach. However, I find myself most drawn to these orientations and modalities as a therapeutic style:

Person-centered/Humanistic Orientation
Support and emotional safety are fundamental to the therapeutic environment ideal for change. We trust that you'll get where you need to go. The therapeutic relationship is key - it is important to me that you feel safe and understood.

Psychodynamic Orientation
In psychodynamic therapy, we explore unconscious conflicts, past experiences, and important relationships. By understanding these elements, you can increase self-awareness and work through patterns that may no longer serve you but once helped you cope or meet your needs. These patterns could show up in emotional, behavioral, or relational challenges. Looking at your past helps us understand your present, as past experiences often shape the way we react to situations today. Our therapeutic relationship may also bring up dynamics that reflect what happens in the outside world, giving us valuable insights into areas that can be worked on together. Being open about your thoughts, emotions, and experiences (especially those that are difficult to talk about or bring up strong feelings) helps deepen our work and move towards positive change.

Attachment Focused
Our earliest relationships shape the way we connect with others and understand ourselves. Whether you struggle with trust, intimacy, or feeling emotionally safe in relationships, exploring your attachment style can help you develop healthier, more fulfilling connections. Together, we can work toward increasing self-awareness, reshaping unhelpful patterns, and cultivating a greater sense of emotional security - both within yourself and in your relationships.

Existential Orientation
Life’s challenges often bring up deep questions about meaning, purpose, and our place in the world. At times, uncertainty, loss, or transitions can leave us feeling untethered. Exploring these experiences can help clarify what truly matters to you. Together, we can work toward aligning your life with your values, embracing personal responsibility, and finding meaning - even in the face of uncertainty.

Relational-Cultural Orientation
Connection, empowerment, and supportive relationships foster growth. Community facilitates wellness. I deeply understand that cultural norms can at times create conflict in oneself, especially when it feels like you must choose between yourself or your relationships. I am passionate about exploring ways that you can stay in connection with others while staying in connection with yourself.

Motivational Interviewing
Motivation for change can be increased through empathy, collaboration, and resolving ambivalence about behavior. People make the changes they need to when they’re ready and I will support you in the readiness process.
